Berry Fun Scarf

I have decided to start my Christmas knitting early this year.  After the disastrous two-hats-a-day knitting three days before Christmas last year, I decided I didn't want to go through that again.  So, anyway, this is a scarf I'm knitting for a friend of mine, but he doesn't know it's his, so shhh!!!

Materials:
-US size 10 (6 mm) straight knitting needles
-1 skein Lion Brand Homespun Yarn in Baroque

Abbreviations:
CO- cast on
BO- bind off
sts- stitches
k- knit
wl. fwd- yarn to the front of the work
w. back- yarn to the back of the work
sl- slip stitch

Knitting the scarf:
CO 36 sts.
Work in garter st (knit all sts) for 4 rows.
Row 5:  k2, * k3, wl. fwd, sl 1 purlwise, wl. back *  repeat from * to last 2 sts, k2
Row 6 and alternate rows:  Purl all sts.
Row 7:  k2, * k2, wl. fwd, sl 1 purlwise, wl. back, k1 * repeat from * to last 2 sts, k2
Row 9:  k2, * k1, wl. fwd, sl 1 purlwise, wl. back, k2 * repeat from * to last 2 sts, k2
Row 11:  k2, * wl. fwd, sl 1 purlwise, wl. back, k3 * repeat from * to last 2 sts, k2
Repeat rows 5-12 until work measures 60 in.
Work in garter st for 4 rows.
BO all sts.
