Mokona Hat

You know Mokona, from xxxHolic?  "Mokona is Mokona.  You'd count them one Mokona, two Mokona, and then you'd stop because there's only two of them."  Well, he's kind of adorable.  So, I decided he deserves to have a hat made of him, you know?  You can also make it in white if you want the Mokona from Tsubasa.

<--- See?  Adorableness.

Abbreviations-
sts- stitches
k- knit
p- purl
CO- cast on
BO- bind off
k2tog- knit 2 together
inc- increase by picking up and knitting the bar in between the 2 sts
MC- main color
CC- contrast color

Materials-
-4.5mm circular or double-pointed needles
-US size 8 (5mm) straight needles (set of 2)
-1 skein each Caron Simply Soft yarn in Black (or white) (MC) and Blue Mint (CC)
-Tapestry needle

Hat:
CO 60 sts in MC on circular needles.
Work in k1, p1 rib for 5 rows.
K all sts until work measures 7.5 inches from the beginning.
Decrease (k2tog) all sts until there are only 20 sts left on the needle.
BO all sts.

Ears (make 2):
CO 3 sts in MC on straight needles.
Increase 1 st at each edge every other row until there are 13 sts.
Work in garter st (k all sts) until work measures 6 inches from the beginning.
Now, continuing in garter st, decrease 1 st in the middle of the row every 4th row until there are only 5 sts left.
BO all sts.

Spot:
CO 2 sts.
Working in stockinette st, inc 1 st at each edge of every other row until there are 7 sts.
Work 2 rows stockinette st.
Continuing in stockinette st, decrease (k2tog) 1 st at each edge of every other row until there are only 2 sts left.
BO all sts.

Finishing:
Sew up the top of the hat.
Weave in your ends.
Sew the ears (at the very top of the hat) and the spot on.
And now it looks almost as cute as Mokona himself!

  3. I read that you had slowed up on posting to this account, but I wanted to let you know that it is absolutely amazing that you posted this pattern. I loved Tsubasa (even though I haven't finished it yet, even all these years after I started collecting them), and this is just so adorable. <3
